Create a Breathing Room

Updated: Jan 19, 2022

Have you heard of a Breathing Room? Basically, it’s a room or even just a corner of your house where you can go to decompress and just breath. I went to a wonderful event hosted at Birdsall last week, with presentations by the owners of Birdsall and Erica's. These are all beautiful local businesses here in the south Broadway/Englewood area. I was inspired by the presentations and thought I would share some of the highlights with you.

  1. A regular meditation or deep breathing practice reduces stress levels, increases energy, benefits digestion, and improves sleep.

  2. Creating a Breathing Room in your home gives you a peaceful nook to do some good self-care.

  3. Your Breathing Room can be used not only for meditation, but to treat your skin to a nice mask or other treatment. You can also make a Breathing Room in your bathroom and relax in the tub with a mineral soak (masks and bath salts available at Erica’s).

  4. Your Breathing Room will benefit from the addition of plants. Plants, and the soil they are in, help to clean chemicals from the air, provide fresh oxygen, and help you to connect with nature in your own home. Check out Birdsall for a nice collection of house plants, along with beautiful pots, watering pitchers, and more.

  5. To bring even more positive energy to your Breathing Room, go to the Peace Cellar for crystals, incense (I personally love Palo Santo and use that in my treatment room), and décor. They are happy to help you if you are new to these things.

I hope you’re inspired to create a healing space for yourself in your home or yard. Visit these gorgeous stores, owned by amazing women, to gather items to create your space.
